Learning Activity - Identifying Rhetorical Styles & Embedding Videos

The goals of this assignment are to 1) become comfortable embedding html encoding into your blog, 2) recognize the three main rhetorical styles, and 3) apply your understanding of the three main rhetorical styles to an example from popular culture. 


To begin, please visit http://www.youtube.com/ and choose a video that demonstrates at least one of the three main rhetorical styles: pathos, ethos, and logos. Using the instructions I provided below, embed your video within a post. Within that same post, please identify the style(s) of rhetoric in the video you chose and provide a brief explanation (8-10 sentences) of how the video utilizes pathos, ethos, or logos.


Note: later in the semester, we will use these videos to further our discussion of rhetorical elements and popular media.

10 Easy Steps for Embedding Videos

Step 1: Find a video that you would like to insert into your post.
Step 2: To the right of the video is information about the video, including the URL and the Embed Html.
Step 3: Right-click and “Select All” of the Html text inside the “Embed” box.
Step 4: Right-click and “Copy” the highlighted Html text.
Step 5: Sign in to your Blogger account.
Step 6: Click on “New Post.”
Step 7: Above your post are two tabs. Click on the tab that says “Compose.”
Step 8: Within the body of the new post box, right-click and “Paste.”
Step 9: Title your post.
Step 10: Once you have pasted the Html text into your post, hit “Publish Post.”

If you view your blog, you will now be able to see and play your video within your post. Voila!
